Sunrise at Kelimutu & Discovering Ngada Culture

Wake up early for one of the highlights of your Flores tour: Kelimutu sunrise.

From Moni, travel to Kelimutu National Park and continue on foot to the viewpoint. As the sky becomes brighter, the three crater lakes gradually appear below you. Their colors can change naturally over time, making every visit slightly different.

After breakfast, continue towards Bajawa through the beautiful Flores highlands.

A Scenic Flores Road Trip Through the Highlands

Today is all about the journey.

Leave Bajawa and travel west through the highlands towards Ruteng. Stop in Aimere, a village known for its traditional production of local palm spirit. Here you can see a different side of rural Flores and learn about a product that has been part of local life for generations.

Continue through winding mountain roads towards Lake Ranamese, a peaceful crater lake surrounded by forest.

Take some time here to enjoy the cool mountain air and quiet surroundings before continuing to Ruteng.

Arrive in Ruteng, the heart of the Manggarai highlands. The town is surrounded by green hills, plantations and traditional villages and is an important stop on any Flores cultural tour travelling between Bajawa and Labuan Bajo.

Spider-Web Rice Fields & Trekking to a Remote Mountain Village

After breakfast, visit the famous Lingko Rice Fields, where the farmland is arranged in a distinctive spider-web pattern. From the viewpoint, you can appreciate the landscape and learn about its importance in Manggarai culture.

Then continue to Denge, where the next part of your Flores adventure begins—the trek to Wae Rebo.

The trail leads through tropical forest and mountain scenery before reaching the remote village. The trek takes several hours, so comfortable shoes and reasonable fitness are recommended.

Then suddenly, through the forest, the traditional Mbaru Niang houses come into view.

Welcome to Wae Rebo.

Located high in the Manggarai mountains, Wae Rebo is known for its distinctive cone-shaped traditional houses and strong community traditions. The village is also recognized internationally for its cultural and community-based tourism.

Spend the evening in the village, meet local residents and experience a much quieter side of Flores Indonesia.

From Traditional Flores to the Gateway of Komodo

Wake up early and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Wae Rebo before breakfast.

After saying goodbye to the local community, trek back down to Denge and continue by vehicle towards Labuan Bajo.

On the way, stop at Cunca Wulang Canyon, a beautiful natural area surrounded by tropical forest. Walk through the canyon and, depending on local conditions, enjoy a refreshing swim in the clear natural pools.

Later, continue towards Labuan Bajo, the coastal town at the western end of Flores and the gateway to Komodo National Park.

After several days traveling through the interior of Flores, arriving in Labuan Bajo feels like reaching a completely different part of the island.
